Does Medicare pay for a beneficiary's care at Marlinda?

(Please see above Medicare Questions Link for more detailed answers or Click Here!)

With the exception of Marlinda-West, Developmentally Disabled Facility, all Marlinda facilities are certified to care for residents eligible for Medicare.  Medicare eligibility must meet Medicare guidelines for skilled care. Medicare pays for inpatient service in a skilled nursing facility when skilled nursing care or skilled rehabilitation services are required on a daily basis and it is not practical for the patient to receive these services outside the facility.

Skilled care is a service which must be prescribed by a Doctor and performed by or under the direct supervision of a trained nurse and/or therapist.  This will assure the safety of the patient and help them achieve the goals the patient and their families set for themselves.

Does Medicare pay 100% of Marlinda?

(Please see above Medicare Questions Link for more detailed answers or Click Here!)

Medicare will pay for a resident who has there insurance if their level of care meets the criteria for skilled care.     A 3 day acute hospital stay is required to be eligible for Medicare.

Medicare pays for skilled care and has a maximum of 100 days.  The first 20 days are covered 100% and beginning the 21st day the beneficiary is responsible for the co-insurance through the 100th day.  Although this is the maximum, the beneficiary must meet skilled level of care criteria to receive this benefit.

Under Part B benefits other services can be paid when the Part A benefits are exhausted or the level of care changes.

Medicare pays for skilled care, not for long term custodial care.
